Julie Wassom is known as the alpaca marketing coach. She is President of Grand Champion Marketing, a division of The Julian Group, Inc., with a specialty in alpacas marketing and sales training and consulting. Her practical ideas work to help alpaca breeders increase sales opportunities, profitability, and the image of their farms and animals.
Julie's interest in livestock began when she was a young girl living on a farm in Iowa, showing 4-H calves at local fairs and national stock shows. As she prepared to be a featured speaker at the 1994 AOBA Conference, she became "hooked" on alpacas. She has been involved with the alpaca industry ever since, as a marketing consultant to individual breeders, a contributing writer for Alpacas Magazine, and a speaker for AOBA, regional affiliates, and breeder educational seminars.
A few years ago, Julie bought her daughter, Elizabeth, a male pet alpaca that she showed in 4-H and other alpaca performance shows. Julie and Elizabeth prefer alpacas over other livestock because "You don't have to kill them and they don't kill you."
When she's not working directly with alpaca associations or individual breeders who own alpacas, Julie is producing marketing and sales training resources for the industry, including her books Marketing Alpacas: Tools for Getting Startedand 101 Ways to Market and Sell Your Alpacas, and a series of Special Reports on marketing and selling alpacas.
